Holland & Holland Royal Hammerless Ejector – 12 Gauge Side-by-Side – Cased This superb Holland & Holland Royal Hammerless Ejector, serial number 14322, is chambered in 12 gauge with 2 ½-inch chambers, representing one of the most celebrated sporting arms ever produced. The right barrel is choked cylinder and the left barrel modified, making it a versatile and elegant game gun. The current 28-inch steel nitro-proofed barrels are of exceptional quality, replacing the original 30-inch Damascus barrels. Marked “TS Custom Gun” on the underside, these barrels feature bright, mirror bores and a single front bead sight. They retain fine original bluing with only slight silvering near the muzzles and along the right barrel at the receiver, while the barrel address and proofs remain sharp and legible. The receiver, originally engraved with delicate English scroll, has been tastefully re-engraved to full coverage, enhancing the shotgun’s elegance. The action ears have been built up and decorated with Mackenzie American-style scrollwork, which is also present on the trigger guard and barrel release. The double triggers and trigger guard retain a rich blued finish, while the release lever and tang-mounted safety feature tasteful strawed accents, including a gold-inlaid “SAFE” at the top. The barrels lock up tight, with matching serial numbers and crisp maker’s marks visible on the water tables and barrel flats. The walnut stock set is finely detailed. The forearm shows sharp checkering with additional scroll embellishments near the release button and at the receiver junction. The buttstock displays gentle handling patina, adding warmth and character, while the checkered grip and smooth stock remain in excellent condition. A small crest adorns the underside near the heel, with faint silver and gold tones. The stock measures a 15-inch length of pull to a leather-wrapped recoil pad, while drop dimensions are 1 5/8 inches at comb and 2 3/8 inches at heel. This fine shotgun is housed in its original Holland & Holland fitted case, with leather-bound edges, straps, and handle. The interior is lined in deep red felt with a leather securing strap and retains the original maker’s trade label in the lid. An original Hammerless Ejector certificate is included but detached. The case shows honest exterior wear consistent with age, but remains solid and attractive. The outer nameplate is inscribed “C.C.H. Smith, Harrietsham, Kent.” This Holland & Holland Royal Hammerless Ejector epitomizes the pinnacle of London gunmaking. With its tasteful engraving, fine replacement barrels, original cased presentation, and remarkable overall condition, it is both a functional sporting arm and a prestigious collectible, making it a superb addition to any advanced collection of best-quality shotguns.
