Auguste Francotte Double Barrel – 12 Gauge Side-by-Side – Cased This Auguste Francotte side-by-side double barrel shotgun, serial number 36346, is chambered in 12 gauge, 2 ¾ inches, and represents the superb craftsmanship for which Francotte is renowned. Produced with an extra finish, this shotgun combines exceptional engraving, finely executed metalwork, and premium walnut, making it a highly collectible sporting firearm. The gun features 30-inch barrels joined by a center rib, both retaining excellent original bluing with a soft, even patina. The bores are bright and shiny, reflecting careful maintenance, and are choked right barrel improved modified and left barrel full. A fixed white bead front sight and mid-bead provide a clean sighting plane. The barrel flats and water table carry crisp proof marks, and all serial numbers are matching. The receiver is exquisitely engraved, showcasing Francotte’s artistry and attention to detail. The left side features a pair of ducks, the right side a pair of partridge, and the underside depicts geese, complemented by a pheasant engraved on the trigger guard. The ears are oversized and adorned with delicate leaf motifs, while the remainder of the action is covered with scroll and fine detailing. The tang safety bears a gold inlaid “S,” and both the barrel release and safety are strawed and in excellent condition. The gun is fitted with double triggers and a blued trigger guard, engraved to match the receiver, with only the faintest silvering on the edges. The mechanics remain strong, with tight lockup and smooth function. The walnut stock set is equally refined. The beavertail forearm is finely checkered in a diamond pattern, with an engraved release button and additional scrollwork where it meets the receiver. The buttstock features a checkered pistol grip, high-gloss finish, and a black leather-covered buttpad in excellent condition. On the underside, a gold oval plate is engraved with the initials PBG, providing a subtle touch of personalization. This shotgun is housed in its original Auguste Francotte leather-bound case, complete with double buckle straps, reinforced corners, and key. The interior is lined with maroon felt and includes a leather securing strap for the stock, all in excellent condition. Overall, this Francotte double barrel shotgun remains in excellent condition throughout, with vibrant engraving, finely figured walnut, and crisp mechanics.
