Armi Beschi – Ithaca Classic Double – 28 Gauge Side-by-Side Shotgun – Early Production This Armi Beschi double barrel side-by-side shotgun, serial number 470063, is chambered in 28 gauge, 2 ¾ inches and configured with the right barrel choked modified and the left barrel choked improved modified. This example is part of the early and limited production Ithaca Classic Double series, a highly sought-after collaboration in fine sporting shotguns. The shotgun is fitted with 28-inch barrels that remain in excellent condition, retaining a deep, rich bluing throughout. The bores are bright and shiny, while the barrels are topped with a full-length rib, a white front bead sight, and a mid-bead. Only faint handling evidence is visible, consistent with careful use. The receiver is case-hardened, displaying beautiful color and a warm patina. It is elegantly engraved with scrollwork and game scenes: a duck on the left side, a pheasant on the right side, and a European hoopoe on the underside. The remaining surfaces are fully covered with fine scroll engraving, including the checkered ears, giving the shotgun an elegant and highly detailed presentation. The tang safety and barrel release are case-hardened and checkered, both in excellent condition. The action is tight, and the barrels lock securely to the receiver. The gun is equipped with double gold triggers, showing minimal wear, within a blued and engraved trigger guard. The water table and barrel flats display clear proof marks and matching serial numbers. Import marks for Thad Scott of Indianola, Mississippi are present, with faint remnants of the original “ITHACA” stamp still visible, reflecting the gun’s association with the Ithaca Classic Doubles project. With an early serial number 470063, this example is believed to be part of the first production series, with only around 500 of these guns thought to exist. The walnut stock set is finely crafted and remains in excellent condition. The beavertail forearm is checkered and finished in gloss, with its engraved release lever continuing the scroll motif. A faint stable hairline crack is visible near the base of the lever release but does not affect function. The buttstock has a checkered pistol grip, smooth comb, and lustrous gloss finish, with only the most minor handling marks. The stock terminates in a small, unmarked silver oval plate at the base. Overall, this is a highly collectible Armi Beschi / Ithaca Classic Double in 28 gauge, combining rarity, beauty, and function. With its finely detailed engraving, excellent mechanical condition, and association with the Ithaca Classic line, it would be a treasured addition to any fine shotgun collection.
