Winchester Pre-64 Model 70 Carbine – .22 High Power – Outstanding Condition This Winchester Model 70, serial number 107439, is an exceptionally rare pre-64 carbine chambered in .22 High Power. Few Model 70s were produced in this caliber, making this rifle one of the more unusual and highly desirable variations of “The Rifleman’s Rifle.” The rifle features a 20-inch barrel dated April 1941, paired with a receiver dated 1949, reflecting Winchester’s practice of utilizing available parts during assembly. The bore is bright and shiny with excellent rifling. The barrel retains its remarkable original bluing, with only slight silvering at the muzzle, while the remainder of the finish is near perfect. It is fitted with a hooded front sight and an adjustable buckhorn rear sight. The receiver retains its very fine matte black factory finish with crisp markings and clean factory screws. The bolt action is smooth, operating with the reliable pre-64 controlled-round feed system and a Type III three-position safety. The bolt and receiver carry matching serial numbers, confirming originality. The steel trapdoor floorplate and trigger guard display light silvering on the edges but retain a very good factory finish. The factory walnut stock remains in near perfect condition, showing only very minor surface scratches around the trapdoor. It retains a beautiful patina with finely checkered forearm and pistol grip panels. The stock is capped with the original checkered steel buttplate, and the length of pull is the original 13 ½ inches, unaltered. Both factory sling swivels are present and in excellent condition. Expertly cared for throughout its life, this Winchester Model 70 carbine remains in extraordinary overall condition.
