Winchester Pre-64 Model 70 Carbine – Rare .250-3000 Savage This Winchester Model 70, serial number 83354, is a rare pre-64 bolt-action carbine chambered in .250-3000 Savage. Only a limited number of these carbines were produced between 1937 and 1949, making this rifle a scarce and highly desirable example of Winchester’s legendary Model 70 line. The rifle features a 20-inch barrel with a bright, shiny bore and sharp rifling. It retains magnificent original factory bluing, complemented by a hooded front sight and adjustable rear buckhorn sight. The barrel address is crisp and clear. The receiver retains its excellent matte finish, is factory drilled and tapped for optics, and the action operates smoothly with Winchester’s controlled-round feed system and transition-style safety. Both the receiver and bolt carry matching serial numbers, confirming its originality. The steel floorplate and trigger guard retain excellent original finish, showing only the faintest fading at the edges. The factory walnut stock remains in astonishing condition, with finely checkered forearm and pistol grip panels, a pleasing patina, and a straight comb with original proportions. The length of pull is 13 ½ inches, indicating it has not been altered from its factory configuration. The stock is capped with the original checkered steel buttplate, also in excellent condition. This rifle remains entirely factory correct and exceptionally well cared for. Given its rarity as a .250-3000 carbine, its excellent condition, and its pre-64 production, this Model 70 represents both a significant collector’s piece and a superb example of Winchester’s craftsmanship from the golden era.
