Original Winchester M1 Garand – .30-06 Springfield – February 1944 Production This original Winchester M1 Garand, serial number 2380507, is chambered in .30-06 Springfield and represents a classic WWII-era U.S. infantry rifle. Based on its serial number, this Winchester Garand was manufactured in February 1944, during the height of World War II. The rifle is fitted with a 24-inch Winchester-marked barrel that retains a very good finish, showing only minor silvering near the muzzle and light wear. The bore remains bright with strong rifling. The barrel is not date-code marked but is Winchester-marked, as is the original bolt, making this example especially desirable. A painted rack number “143” is marked on the top of the rifle. The action cycles smoothly, with the semi-automatic mechanism in very good condition. The receiver retains clear Winchester markings, and the bolt is jeweled and Winchester-marked. The rear sight is an adjustable peep, remaining excellent for its age, while the fixed front sight shows expected edge wear. The hinged trigger guard and trap door buttplate are in very good condition, with only minor wear. The buttplate trap door remains intact but does not include a cleaning rod. Double sling swivels are present at the forearm and butt, and the bayonet lug and ring are intact, though no bayonet is included. The hardwood stock shows honest wartime character, with scattered handling marks, mars, and darkening in contact areas, yet retains a beautiful patina. A stamped “AAK” cartouche appears on the left side above the trigger. The stock is in overall excellent condition for a combat-era rifle. This Winchester M1 Garand is an iconic U.S. service rifle from WWII, also seeing use in the Korean War. General George S. Patton once declared, “In my opinion, the M1 rifle is the greatest battle implement ever devised.” Winchester produced approximately 513,880 Garands before ceasing production in 1945, with the vast majority later overhauled or rebuilt. This example stands out as it retains its Winchester-marked barrel and bolt, along with its painted rack number—features rarely found together in original rifles today. An extraordinary addition for any Winchester or U.S. military arms collection, this rifle embodies American history and craftsmanship, representing the iconic battle rifle that helped win World War II.
